In the summer of 2013, the Victorinox family lost Carl Elsener. He was an inventor, pioneer and a great entrepreneur. However, he is known to most as the Swiss man who made the little red pocket knife a faithful companion for millions of people around the world. Grounded by his faith and driven by his strong willpower, he improved many things and shaped those around him. To honor this extraordinary person, Victorinox has launched a special collector's item. In 2013, Victorinox produced Carl Elsener's favorite pocket knife as the "Explorer" model in a special edition with Damascus steel, inlaid Cross & Shield and wooden handles bearing Carl Elsener's signature. Each copy is numbered and limited to 7000 pieces.

Damascus steel has always played a special role in the history of Victorinox. For many years, various special editions of Swiss Army Knives made of different types of Damascus steel have been produced.
